摘要 The invention relates to a method and device which allow a user to make a selection from the range of functions of a technical system. A system of several concentric, contact-sensitive turning knobs (1, 2, 3) is used for selecting functions from a range of functions which is progressively widened and represented on a variable optical display device (11). The desired function is selected through an additional input action. For users who are non-trained or who are interested only in basic functions, the number of turning knobs can be reduced to one so that the complexity of the dialog can be decreased. With progressive training, the user can gradually use the other turning knobs and include functions associated to said buttons in the interaction. On the contrary, the trained user can optionally access all of the turning knobs immediately. Said turning knobs are provided with contact sensors (7, 9, 9) so that the representation on the variable optical display corresponds to the turning knob which is under contact. According to the contact time of each turning knob, which is determined by the contact sensors, help information can be made available to the user, in the form of acoustic and/or optical information and optionally with a stepped intensity.
