The unit comprises a base piece (15) and a first jaw means (20) positioned parallel and side by side to together define a longitudinal slot (8), the first jaw means (20) being connected to the base piece (15) in such a manner as to be able to rotate about an axis parallel to the unit axis in the sense of increasing and respectively decreasing the width of the longitudinal slot (8), the unit also comprising a second jaw means (16) acting within said longitudinal slot (8), and actuator means (30) associated with the first jaw means (20) and acting on the second jaw means (16) with a transverse thrust directed in the sense of urging the second jaw means (16) towards the interior of the longitudinal slot (8), the unit finally comprising reaction means (50) associated with the first jaw means (20) to produce a reaction tending to rotate the first jaw means (20) in the sense of decreasing the width of the longitudinal slot (8), both the thrust with which said actuator means (30) operate and the thrust with which the reaction means (50) operate being such as to lock the tools.
