PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-stage type rotary kiln which can be used for many purposes such as the drying of a treating material, the production of a carboniza tion product and the production of activated carbon, and can consistently continu ously produce the activated carbon from the raw material for the activated carbon. SOLUTION: This multi-stage rotary kiln is manufactured by vertically disposing rotary kilns 1, 2, 3 and 4 for preliminary drying, carbonization, activation and post drying, respectively, in this order so that the inlets 13, 23, 33, 43 and exits 14, 24, 34 and 44 of the rotary kilns are arranged in alternately reverse directions. A raw material for activated carbon is dried in the rotary kilns 1 for preliminary drying, and the dried raw material is carbonized in the rotary kiln 2 for the carbonization. The produced carbon is activated in the rotary kiln 3 for the activation, and the activated carbon is dried in the rotary kiln 4 and then recovered. A carbonization product-recovering means 9 for recovering the carbonization product or dried product from the exit 34 of the rotary kiln 3 for the activation is also disposed. |
