PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a coated roll having a constitution capable of executing the reproduction of a fused coating layer of a self-fluxing alloy at a low cost. SOLUTION: The barrel part of a metallic roll 2 is freely fitted with a metallic cylinder 3A having large inside diameter, the metallic cylinder is subjected to hot upsetting for reducing its length and is therefore fitted to the barrel part to form into a metallic sleeve firmly fixed to the barrel part, next, the outer circumferential face of the metallic sleeve is applied with a coating material of a self-fluxing alloy to form a primary coating layer, and after that, the primary coating layer is heated and fused to form a fused coating layer. At the time of reproducing the fused coating layer, by renewing the metallic sleeve, the renewing of the metallic roll body is made needless, and the reduction of the cost can be attained.
