PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an annealing furnace for stainless steel in which a pure oxygen burner giving a reduced amount of exhaust gas, having a good thermal efficiency and not generating NOX, is used. SOLUTION: The furnace body 12 is formed as a long shape integrated in a pass line, and supporting rollers 14 for carrying and supporting the stainless steel sheet 13 are disposed in the furnace body 12. Sealing chambers 16 for preventing the invasion of the air into the furnace body 12, are arranged at the outlet part and the inlet part of the furnace body 12. The pure oxygen burners 15 are made to burn in the furnace body 12 in the oxygen atmosphere, and the invasion of the air into the furnace body 12 is prevented and the exhaust heated gas quantity is reduced to improve the thermal efficiency, and the exhaust gas treating equipment is miniaturized, and the development of the thermal NOX is eliminated.
