Production of alcohol mixtures comprises: (a) metathesis reaction of a hydrocarbon mixture containing cyclopentene and acyclic monoolefin(s); (b) isolating an olefin fraction of mainly 6-12 carbon (C) olefins; (c) optionally subjecting the di- and poly-unsaturated compounds in this fraction to selective hydrogenation to monoolefins; and (d) catalytic hydroformylation and hydrogenation with carbon monoxide hydrogen. Independent claims are also included for: (1) alcohol mixtures obtained by this process; (2) the production of an ester mixture by reacting the alcohol mixture with acid(s) selected from aliphatic di- and tricarboxylic acids, aromatic mono-, di- and tricarboxylic acids, phosphoric acid and derivatives and mixtures of these; (3) the ester mixtures obtained by this process; and (4) polymer compositions containing: (i) polymer(s) selected from acrylic resins, polyamides, polyethylene terephthalate, polyolefins, polystyrene, fluoropolymers and vinyl chloride (co)polymers, (ii) an ester mixture of this type and (iii) optionally other additives. |
