PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of a material and to improve its various properties by mixing at least two kinds of vegetable fibers whose average size ratios are specified as a cultivation/moisture-adjustment material for the microorganisms, in an apparatus for decomposing garbage by using microorganisms which decompose organic substances, are mixed. SOLUTION: As the cultivation/moisture-adjustment material, into a mixture of rice hulls 1 and coconut shell fibers 2, garbage A is mixed. The rice hulls 1 are used without being processed, the long diameter and short diameter of the rice hulls are set up at about 7 mm and about 4 mm, respectively. The fibers 2 are powdered to be used, and the size is set up at about 0.5-5 mm. The average size ratio between the hulls 1 and the fibers 2 is set up 1/15-1/1.5. Moreover, the volume ratio between the hulls 1 and the fibers 2 is set up at 7/3-5/5. In this way, the excellent air permeability of the hulls 1 and the excellent adhesion to garbage A of the fibers 2 are combined to attain the extension of life and the improvement of water retaining and temperature keeping properties.
