PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing structure in a pile top joining part which can avoid the breakage of a pile top, reduce the height of a lower side of an office building or the like, and effectively absorb the vibration energy of the office building or the like in an earthquake, etc. SOLUTION: An energy absorbing structure 1 comprises a pile 3 installed in the ground 2, and a concrete foundation 7 arranged on a pile top 4 of the pile 3. The energy absorbing structure further comprises a steel a member 9 which is fixed to the pile 3 on one end part 9a and fixed to the foundation 7 on the other end part 9b, and a viscoelastic body 10 which surrounds the periphery of a part 8 between one end part 9a and the other end part 9b of each steel member 9, is embedded in the foundation 7, and interposed between the part 8 of each steel member 9 and the foundation 7.
