PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low cost gas barrier plastic film having gas barrier properties equal to those of a conventional product, capable of seeing through content, enabling the use of a metal detector, suppressed in temp. and humidity dependence, excellent in processability and gentle to environment. SOLUTION: In a barrier film wherein a composite film 2 containing an inorg. laminar compd. and a water-soluble polymer as main constituents is arranged on at least the single surface of a base material 1 comprising a plastic material, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal cabonate or hydroxide is added to the composite film 2.
