PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorus fixing method capable of fixing phosphorus into a slag without volatilizing the same at a time of melting in a strong reducing atmosphere. SOLUTION: In the phosphorus fixing method for melting a pretreated object to be melted in the strong reducing atmosphere of a melting furnace to form molten slag and fixing phosphorus contained in the object to be melted into the slag or a metal formed by reduction at a time of melting, the ratio of the concn. of a metal element for fixing phosphorus volatilized at melting treatment temp. as phosphide and the concn. of an element forming acidic oxide is set to an adjusting index ratio R and the components of the object to be melted are adjusted so that the adjusting index ratio R becomes a predetermined lower limit value or less.
