PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically apply an engine brake or a brake in a vehicle by analyzing brain waves of a driver, detectingθwaves,δwaves, or waves between them, and actuating an automatic braking means when the detected waves satisfy a previously decided condition. SOLUTION: For automatically actuating a brake or an engine brake in a vehicle according to brain waves, an electroencephalograph is used as a brain wave inputting means 1. Ifθwaves are increased in comparison with other brain wave constituents, ifθp>0.7 for example, it is determined that a driver likely to doze off. Then, an engine brake is applied while possibility of dozing is announced. For announcement, recording recorded in a tape recorder or a semiconductor IC is reproduced according to an instruction from a computer 9 in a wave analyzing means 2. An engine brake is applied when an instruction from the computer 9 in the wave analyzing means 2 is transmitted to an automatic braking means 3.
