PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber containing propylene terephthalate as a main repeating unit, having dipropylene glycol content and intrinsic viscosity satisfying a specific formula, having high dyeability and excellent softness and elastic recovery and suitable for sportswear and inner wear. SOLUTION: The objective fiber contains propylene terephthalate as a main repeating unit and has a dipropylene glycol(DPG) content and intrinsic viscosity(IV) satisfying the formulas: 0.2<=DPG (mol%)<=7.0 and 0.7<=IV<=1.2. The fiber preferably satisfies the formula: 60<=ΔTc( deg.C)<=100 whereinΔTc is the temperature difference between the temperature increasing crystallization peak temperature (Tc1) and the temperature decreasing crystallization peak temperature (Tc2) measured by a differential scanning calorimeter(DSC).
