PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a masterbatch which, even when compounded in a small amount, can be easily and uniformly dispersed in various thermoplastic organic resins, and which can impart flame retardancy to thermoplastic organic resins by using specified amounts of a thermoplastic organic resin and a phenyl- containing silicone resin as the main ingredients. SOLUTION: This masterbatch mainly comprises 100 pts.wt. thermoplastic organic resin and 20-200 pts.wt. phenyl-containing silicone resin. A silicone resin represented by the average composition formula is suitable as the phenyl- containing silicone resin. In the formula, R is H or a monovalent organic group other than phenyl; X is OH or a hydrolyzable group, which is preferably 3-6C alkoxy; and as for m, n, and p 0.3<=m<=1.8, 0<=n<=1.5, and 0<=p<=1.5 and preferably satisfying the relations 1.0<=m+n<2.0, 0.2<=m/(m+n)<=1.0, and 1.0<=m+n+p<=3.0. The silicone resin is preferably solid at 25 deg.C (normal temperature).
