PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butterfly valve which can be assembled and disassembled with ease, turned by small force and stabilize a valve body at its stop position leaving a margin. SOLUTION: A valve casing 10 comprises two segmented casings 11 and 12 to be assembled across a valve shaft 21. A clamp member 30 clamps the two segmented casings 11 and 12. The valve shaft 21 includes a valve shaft extension section 22, which is projected outward penetrating the valve casing 10 and clamp member 30. The valve shaft extension section 22 is provided with an indexing member 50 including a pin member 51, which rotates together with the valve shaft 21 and indicates the rotary position of a valve body 20. The pin member 51 can axially slide in the indexing member 50 and is energized to one side. The clamp member 30 is formed with a bearing section at a portion where the valve shaft extension section 22 penetrates, and the tip of the pin member 21 of the indexing member 50 abuts on the surface of the bearing section and is fittedly inserted into holes according to the opening and closing position of the valve body 20. The pin member 51 is released from the surface of the bearing section when a indication knob 52 is pulled.
