PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy-functional organopolysiloxane resin which contains specific repeating units, and can be used for producing a weather- resistant and chemical-resistant coating material. SOLUTION: This resin contains repeating units represented by formulas I, II, III, and IV (wherein E is an epoxy-functional 1-18C hydrocarbon group containing at least one oxygen atom when the oxygen atom is not directly bonded to Si atom; R1 and R2 are each a 1-20C hydrocarbon group optionally containing groups containing scattered heteroatoms; a is 0, 1, or 2; b is 0, 1, 2, or 3; and c is 0, 1, 2, or 3 provided a+b+c=3 in the unit of formula I, a+b+c=2 in the unit of formula II, and a+b+c=1 in the unit of formula III). Units represented by formula I and units represented by formula II are present respectively in a content lower than about 40 mol%, The molecule of the resin contains, on average, at least two E groups. The resin is prepared by reacting an epoxy-functional silane with a silicone polymer.
