PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly measure the actual distortion of the optical fiber that is produced, as a distortion is applied thereto. SOLUTION: When a parent material 1 for optical fiber is drawn into optical fiber 3, a distortion is developed on the optical fiber 3. A distortion measurement device 4 is used to continuously measure the outer diameter of the optical fiber from different directions within the vertical face to the optical fiber- advancing direction along the lengthwise direction of the optical fiber whereby the distortion of the optical fiber is measured.
