PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quenching method and a quenching apparatus for a steel pipe, with which the unevenness of mechanical characteristic, particularly the hardness in the longitudinal direction of the steel pipe can be restrained. SOLUTION: When the quenching liquid from one side opening part 2a of the steel pipe 2 into the inner part is supplied and also, the quenching liquid from the other side opening part 2b is discharged by using a quenching liquid supply device 3, based on the measured values t1, t2 of the respective temps. of the quenching liquid just before supplying into the steel pipe 2 and the quenching liquid just after discharging from the steel pipe 2, the quenching liquid quantity for supplying into the steel pipe 2 is controlled with a control unit 6. The unevenness of the hardness in the longitudinal direction of the steel pipe 2, is restrained.
