PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal powder capable of giving a high mechanical strength when pressed and to specify the morphology of grains composing the metal powder therefor. SOLUTION: This relates to a method for preparing metal powder or alloy power. In the 1st stage, one or more metallic oxalates composed of grains having an annular morphology in which the average value of the annular ratio (defined as the ratio between the length and the diameter) is 4 to 20, and the length is 5 to 20 μm is prepd. In the 2nd stage, the oxalic metal is reduced with gaseous hydrogen, or the oxalic metal is decomposed into oxide in the air, and, after that, this oxide is reduced.
