PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject novel dimorpholidate derivative that is suitable as a synthetic intermediate for phosphonylmethoxyalkyladenine that is useful as an antiviral agent by condensation reaction between an adenine derivative and phosphylinidene-bis morpholine derivative or the like. SOLUTION: The objective compound is represented by formula I (R1 is H, benzyl; R2 is H, methyl), typically 9-(2-dimorpholinophosphonylmethoxyethyl)- adenine. The compound of formula I is prepared, for example, by condensation reaction between an adenine derivative of formula II and 4,4'-[(chloromethyl) phosphinylidene]bismorpholine in a solvent (for example, dimethylformamide, dioxane, acetonitrile or the like), preferably in the presence of a base (for example, sodium hydride), preferably at room temperature up to the boiling point of the solvent.
