PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary the sheet transport speed by one driving means. SOLUTION: This sheet transport apparatus 13 includes a substantially constant speed rotating driving means 37; a pair of sheet transport rotors 106 for clamping a sheet and transporting the same; a first rotating force transmitting means having plural rotating force transmitting member 22, 24 for transmitting the rotating force of the deriving means 37 to one rotor 11 of the paired sheet transporting rotors 106 and a clutch 31; a second rotating force transmitting means having plural rotating force transmitting member 23, 25 for transmitting the rotating force of the driving means 37 to one rotor of the paired sheet transport rotors 106 a clutch 32, which has a speed reduction ration smaller than that of the first rotating force transmitting means; and a control means 41 for putting one of the clutch of the first rotating force transmitting means and the clutch 32 of the second rotating force transmitting means in the rotating force intercepting state, and then putting the other clutch in the rotating force transmitting state.
