PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove a coating material without generating of damage on a surface of a plate material by applying a solvent on the peripheral part of a cutting part of a coated material to soften the part, pushing a cutting tool consisting of a material having a lower hardness than the softened material and high wear resistance into the cutting part, forming a cutting groove and stripping a required part with the cutting groove as a starting point. SOLUTION: A little excess of a solvent 5 is applied over the entire length of a part having a constant width at both sides of a cutting part 2a on an upper surface of 'maskant' (coating material for masking) 2. It takes about 2 minutes to soften the maskant 2 by the solvent 5 after the solvent is applied. Then the part of the maskant 2 softened by the solvent 5 is stripped along the cutting part 2a by utilizing a cutting tool 7 having an acute-angle-shaped roundish tip part. At this time, each side of the cutting tool 7 is put to a template 8 and the template 8 is used as a guide. The cutting tool 7 favorably consists of a fluorinated resin material because it is softer than a pure aluminum material as a surface layer material 12 and has a high wear resistance and furthermore has a high solvent resistance.
