PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle roof for many purposes at a low production cost so that a movable roof can be locked at a slide-up position or a slide-down position reliably. SOLUTION: In this vehicle roof comprising a movable roof portion, the movable roof portion is able to move from a slide-up position to a slide-down position by a slide-down mechanism 48, and provided with a locking device 14 for locking the roof portion both at the slide-up position and slide-down position. When the movable roof portion is slid upward, the locking device 14 interacts with a first mating member 11 that is fastened to a roof portion 20 unmovable at least temporarily. When the movable roof portion is slid downward, the locking device 14 interacts with a second mating member 62 which is fastened to an element of the slide-down mechanism 48.
