PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a 3-alkoxyalkanal which provides a 3-alkoxyalkanol useful as a solvent for a coating material, a photoresist, etc., and is its precursor and a high-purity 3- alkoxyalkanol. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 3-alkoxyalkanal comprises oxidizing propylene or isobutylene to give a reaction product solution of acrolein or methacrolein and an alcohol, containing acids and obtaining the 3- alkoxyalkanol as an azeotropic mixture with water by distillation. This method for producing a 3-alkoxyalkanol comprises hydrogenating the 3-alkoxyalkanal.
