An arrangement for selective separation of mixed solids of differing densities , and possibly particle sizes, has a conveyor belt (21), preferably with adjustable speed control, and at least one air nozzle (22). The nozzle air pressure and velocity transverse to the conveyor direction may be adjustable. At least one separator deflector vane (24), and two collection bins (26,27) are provided - one opposite to the nozzle (22) and the other at the normal discharge end of the conveyor. A collimation guide (23) may be placed on the conveyor, upstream of the nozzle (22), to narrow down the solids feed stream. If appropriate a sieve unit may be fitted upstream to reduce the load on the air jet separator.
