A packing gland assembly for a sootblower, the packing gland assembly comprising: a packing material for providing a seal between a lance tube and a feed tube of a sootblower; a gland follower fixedly mounted relative to the non-discharge end of the lance tube; and a spring which is compressively mounted relative to the packing material to supply a compressive force to the packing material, wherein the compressive force of the spring acts on the packing material to urge the packing material towards the gland follower to effect the seal between the lance tube and the feed tube.
