The invention relates to a method for operating a balloon dilatation catheter comprising a balloon catheter having a dilatable balloon which is impinged upon by a pressure medium via a pressure line by means of a pressure generator. In order to carry out dilatation of said balloon in a less intrusive and more compatible manner, thereby avoiding injury to the surrounding tissue, the dilatation ballon is dynamically imposed upon with oscillating pressure by said pressure medium. The object of the invention is also a balloon catheter which is used to carry out the inventive method.
