PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling an instrument panel of a digital type is provided to refill fuel by popping-up element displaying fuel amount. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling an instrument panel of a digital type comprises an input unit(10) changing elements of an instrument panel(30); a select button(11) selecting the element by being mounted on an input unit; a color button(13) changing color of the selected element; a position moving button(15) changing position of the selected element; a storing switch(22) storing the changed element of the instrument panel; a memory unit(23) memorizing data commended by the input unit as table data; a storing switch(22) memorizing each element state; an ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(20) displaying the state of the element on the instrument panel; and a fuel sensor(21) detecting fuel residue amount of a vehicle by being elastically connected to the ECU.
