A method of fusion welding resin articles (6, A), which are difficult to melt due to a fusion retarder present in the articles in the form of fusion retarding element or structure, comprises: (a) applying (preferably by painting), to the surface portions of the articles (6, A), a fusion accelerator which is capable of destroying the fusion retarder when heated; (b) heating the resin articles (6, A), with surfaces in contact with each other, so that the fusion accelerator destroys the fusion retarder and the surface potions melt to effect fusion welding; and (c) allowing the articles to cool. Also claimed are methods as above in which the application of the accelerator comprises: (A) applying a tape impregnated or coated with a fusion accelerator or a tube in which the accelerator is embedded to the surface portions; (B) using an applicator for applying, from the outside, a fusion accelerator to the surface portions, where the resin articles (6, A) may be simultaneously heated with the use of the applicator; (C) setting in place a heating element (2), between the surface portions, which is composed of a heating element composed of a heating wire (3) covered with an insulating sheath (4) that has a surface coated with fusion accelerator and supplying electric current through the heating wire (3) to heat the articles (6, A); and (D) setting in place a resin composition, between the surface portions, which contains an amount of peroxides. As an alternative in step (C), the sheath may be covered with a tape impregnated or coated with a fusion accelerator or a tube in which the accelerator is embedded
