The invention relates to a keyless access system for vehicles, in which an identification control device (I-SG) positioned in the vehicle and a portable transponder carry out a question-answer dialogue - triggered by the actuation of a door handle (TG) - during which the authorization to unlock the vehicle door is verified and the unlocking of said vehicle door is permitted and carried out only once an authorization to do so has been detected. Actuation of the vehicle door via two adjustment sections, whereby the move from the first to the second adjustment section is permitted if the question-answer dialogue has been successful, makes it possible for this access system to be used both for vehicle doors with electronic locks (SE, SM) and for doors with mechanical locks.
