Each blade of an impeller, attached to a camshaft and positioned within a drive gear (2) forming part of a camshaft adjustment mechanism, is in the form of a separate blade segment (18), movable in a guide (15). The segment is spaced radially from the peripheral wall (3) of the drive gear in a working chamber (5). The segment is axially spaced from the side walls of the drive gear, being sealed radially by the radial centrifugal force resulting from rotation of the adjustment mechanism and acting on the segment. Axial sealing is provided by a sealing member fitted under pre-stress. Preferably, the guide for each rectangular segment is formed as a radial groove with parallel axial side walls (16,17) in the hub of the impeller.
