Laminated film containing a biaxially oriented polyester film (A) comprising (A1) a polyester base layer, (A2) outer layer(s) of polyester with at least 40 wt% ethylene 2,6-naphthalate units, up to 40 wt% ethylene terephthalate units and optionally other polyester units, and (A3) a metal or ceramic layer, in which film (A) has a Tg2 value between those of (A1) and (A2). A film laminate containing (A) a biaxially oriented polyester film with (B) another film laminated onto it, in which (A) comprises (A1) a base layer containing at least 80 wt% thermoplastic polyester, (A2) at least one outer layer consisting of a (co)polymer or mixture of polymers with at least 40 wt% ethylene 2,6-naphthalate (EN) units, up to 40 wt% ethylene terephthalate (ET) units and optionally up to 60 wt% units of other aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic diols and/or dicarboxylic acids and (A3) a metallic or ceramic layer on the outer layer, with the proviso that the Tg2 value of the polyester film is higher than that of the base layer but lower than that of the outer layer. (Tg2 = second glass transition temperature observed after melting, cooling and reheating). An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of this film laminate by (a) production of a polyester film by coextrusion of base and outer layer(s), (b) biaxial stretching, (c) thermal fixing, (d) application of an oxygen-barrier layer and (e) lamination of another film onto the functionalised surface formed in (d). |
