<p>The safety wall is made up of panels which have inner cavities filled with a cold fire-extinguishing liquid under pressure and fitted with nozzles (15) which open automatically at high temperature to spray jets of the liquid over vehicles, engines or equipment passing through the tunnel. Each of the panels is made from two metal sheets welded together with the cavities formed between them and shaped to withstand the pressure of the liquid inside, while the nozzles are fitted to holes in one sheet of each panel. The panels are mounted on the inside of an underground structure such as the concrete shell of a tunnel.</p> |
