The arrangement has device that acts upon the valve shaft of a valve to transfer the valve between positions in which it closes and exposes an inlet or outlet opening of a cylinder. The device contains an electromagnet (1) and a controllable current feed with part (13) of the valve shaft (12) protruding into the magnet as an armature, whereby at least the part of the valve shaft involved is designed so that it is repelled or attracted according to the polarity of the electromagnet.
