PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the highly accurate display of the remaining developer quantity which is desirable for a user by applying the partial voltage of a developing bias voltage on a remaining developer quantity detecting means provided with a pair of electrodes and detecting the remaining quantity of the developer over a wide range. SOLUTION: The developing device is provided with the remaining developer quantity detecting means (developer detecting part 80) with 1st and 2nd electrodes 81 and 82 in a remaining developer quantity detection circuit 100. The partial developing bias voltage divided by a developing bias voltage dividing means 104 is applied on the 1st electrode 81, and a developing bias voltage from a developing bias applying means 101 is applied on the 2nd electrode 82. The remaining quantity of the developer in a developer container is calculated based on the addition value which is obtained by adding an electrical signal corresponding to the electrostatic capacitance between the 1st electrode 81 and the 2nd electrode 82 and a 2nd electrical signal corresponding to the electrostatic capacitance between a developer carrier 9a and the 1st electrode 81.
