PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for determining a position of a surface section of a molded plastic article. SOLUTION: The titled method comprises steps of providing a sensor element 30 having at least one outlet 36 for a fluid 52, the outlet 26 being positioned in the region of a standard position of the surface section 32, letting the fluid 52 flow from the outlet 36 and determining a proper parameter for a quantity of the fluid 52 flowing from the outlet 36. It may be utilized for quality control of molded plastic articles 12 during demolding from a hollow cavity of a molding apparatus and for determining the position of the product.
