The invention relates to a process and device for applying horizontal traffic markings to roads or other horizontal surfaces, by using a hydrated dispersion paint which is sprayed onto the road surface and contacted with a dispersed acid in the form of a hydrated solution, a powder or acid-impregnated particles, by means of a device which comprises a marking vehicle (1) with at least one paint spray gun (2), a device (4, 8) for scattering the acid onto the paint layer or into the paint jet, a profiled particle dispenser (10), a reflecting granule disperser (6) and a second acid scattering nozzle (13) mounted thereon.
