PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polarizing plate which is good in both of brightness and polarizing performance and which is suitable for a channel of green color (for green light) by incorporating a water-soluble dye as a dichroic dye having a specified basic skeleton in the form of a free acid and having the maximum absorption wavelength in a specified range. SOLUTION: The polarizing plate for a liquid crystal projector contains a water-soluble dye as a dichroic dye having a basic skeleton in the form of a free acid expressed by the formula and having the maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) in the range from >=520 nm to <580 nm. In the formula, R1 is an amino group or hydroxyl group. The maximum absorption wavelength (λmax) means the maximum absorption wavelength measured when two polarizing films dyed with the dichroic molecules expressed by the formula are overlapped with their orientation direction perpendicular to each other (in the cross state). The water-soluble dye may be in the form of a salt as well as the free acid. As for the salt, for example, alkali metal salts such as sodium salts, potassium salts and lithium salts can be used. |
