PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an eddy-current speed reducer, which is small-sized as a whole and has excellent heat-dissipation properties and high braking capacity. SOLUTION: The eddy-current speed reducer has a brake disk 3 coupled with a shaft 2, a guide cylinder 4 arranged to an irrotational section such as a car boxy on the side of the brake disk 3 and composed of a nonmagnetic substance having a rectangular sectional hollow section 10, a magnet supporting ring 8 housed in the hollow section 10 of the guide cylinder 4 in a manner that the ring 8 can be reciprocated in the axial direction of rotation, a large number of magnets 9 coupled with the side face of the magnet supporting ring 8 at regular intervals in the circumferential direction, and a magnetic pole member 6 in which a base end face is brought into contact with both end faces in the circumferential direction of the magnets 9 and a side face on the front end side is disposed so as to face the inner end wall 4c of the guide cylinder 4. Braking force based on an eddy current is generated by magnetic fields from the magnets 9 in the braking disk 3.
