摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a living polymer that has a narrow molecular weight distribution and that can be converted to a terminally functionalized polymer or block copolymer by polymerizing an olefin at a specified temperature using a catalyst which comprises a Hf- or Zr-containing compound and a phenyl group-containing borane compound or borate compound. SOLUTION: A 2-20C olefinic monomer is polymerized with the use of a catalyst which comprises a Hf- or Zr-containing compound having one or two cyclopentadienyl skeletons and a borane compound represented by B(Ph)3 (wherein Ph is phenyl which may be substituted) or a borate compound represented by B-(Ph)4X+ (wherein X+ is a cationic group) and in some cases, further comprises an aluminum compound at -20 to -100 deg.C in the case of the use of a Hf-containing compound or at -60 to -100 deg.C in the case of the use of a Zr-containing compound to thereby produce a living polymer having a Mw/Mn of 1-1.3.
