PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain environmental fluctuation to be small and to improve carrying ability and durability by providing an intermediate transfer body with an intermediate transfer belt and a driving roller and setting the surface roughness of the contact surface of the driving roller with the intermediate transfer belt within a specified range. SOLUTION: The intermediate transfer belt 19 is constituted of a high conductive elastic layer 19a and a low conductive layer 19b, and the elastic layer 19a is arranged on the side of the belt 19 coming in contact with the driving roller. The thickness of the belt putting them together is about 100 to 1000μm and the belt is stretched and laid with tensile force being about 3 to 20 kgf. The pipe part of the driving roller is constituted so that the surface roughness may be within Rz=10 to 100μm after it is blast-processed and plated. This is because sliding is caused between the belt 19 and the developing roller under the condition of low temperature and low humidity in the case of setting the surface roughness smaller than Rz=10μm and the elastic layer 19a is cracked under the condition of high temperature and high humidity in the case of setting the surface roughness larger than Rz=100μm when the contact surface of the belt 19 with the driving roller is provided with the elastic layer 19a made of rubber or the like.
