PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network information system which enables a user to know the physical position relation among resources connected to a network. SOLUTION: A server PC6 manages physical arrangement information 7 and structure arrangement information 8 on the resources connected to the network 1 and when an inquiry from a client PC14 to a printer 13 is received, arrangement information on the printer 13 is retrieved from the physical arrangement information 7; and information on a route to the printer 13 is specified according to the retrieval result and the specified route information is sent back to the client PC14.
