PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the manufacturing method of a magnetic scale where facilitates are inexpensive, manufacturing time is short, and manufacturing costs are reduced. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method has a first process that allows austenite that can contain martensite structure by 10% or more in terms of a volume rate and is easily subjected to machining inducement transformation to be subjected to machining for forming a cylindrical material 1, a second process that allows the material 1 to be subjected to heat treatment until the material 1 becomes the uniform austenite structure for carrying out non- magnetization, and a third process that uses a press tool 4 where a projection is formed, rotates the material 1 around an axis center being extended in an extension direction while the projection is being pressed to the outer periphery of the material 1, moves the press tool 4 along the extension direction of the material 1 for giving plastic deformation onto the surface of the material at every specific intervals, deposits the martensite structure by machining inducement transformation at one portion of a surface layer for alternately forming ferromagnetic and non-magnetic parts.
