PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grind a work with a stepwise roughness, to improve the operating efficiency of a grinding machine by using a whole grinding surface of a grinding panel, and to reduce the optical connection loss by smoothing grinding damages of the work. SOLUTION: This multi-spindle grinding machine has a plurality of grinding panels which are rotated, different in roughness and juxtaposed. The grinding machine comprises a horizontal feed mechanism to move a work set jig 3 at the front position of a specified grinding panel, a horizontal oscillation mechanism to reciprocate the work set jig 3 parallel to and along the grinding panel with a specified width, a grinding pressure adjusting mechanism to press the work 2 mounted on the work set jig 3 with the specified pressure against the grinding panel, and a cut and feed control mechanism to control the grinding quantity of the work 2. The work 2 is moved stepwise from the grinding panel high in roughness to the grinding panel low in roughness, and the work 2 is ground by turnably oscillating the work with the horizontal oscillation by a specified grinding quantity while an end face of the work 2 is pressed against a grinding surface (f) of each grinding panel with the specified grinding pressure.
