PURPOSE: A continuously variable transmission is provided to perform backward movement of a vehicle conveniently by installing a chain gear member without complex planetary gear sets, and to design an input shaft bearing of the transmission simply by improving the freedom of design. CONSTITUTION: A continuously variable transmission(50) is composed of a chain gear member(51), a pulley member(52) and an output gear member(53). The chain gear member consists of a first sprocket(57) inserted to a driving shaft(S) and turned unidirectionally by a first frictional factor(54), and a second sprocket(58) installed in an output shaft(56) of the output gear member to turn by interlocking with a chain(55) of the first sprocket. The pulley member transmits power from the driving shaft through a metal belt(62) to the driven shaft by combining a second frictional factor(63) selectively. The output gear member outputs power from the pulley member and the chain gear member, and has a gear train unit(70) and a differential gear unit(71). The vehicle is moved backward with installing the simple chain gear member, and the freedom of design is improved.
