摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ominidirectional or panoramic viewer where several cameras have a common valid optical center by arranging the several cameras so that the cameras view the different reflecting surfaces of a polyhedron such a pyramid. SOLUTION: Individual cameras 52, 54, 56 and 58 have a common virtual optical center in a pyramid 40. The camera 52 observes a reflection from a surface 48 to view objets in the direction of an arrow 60. The camera 54 observes a reflection from a surface 42 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 62. The camera 56 observes a reflection from a surface 44 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 64. The camera 58 observes a reflection from a surface 46 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 66. Each of cameras 52, 54, 56 and 58 has a 90 degree field of view. A 360 degree view of the area which surrounds the pyramid 40 is generated by combining the observed reflecting images of the four cameras.
