PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cooling device where cooling water supplied from the cooling device to a cavity block is gradually and automatically increased in a flow rate, without using a man power by a method, where a device which is inexpensive and simple in structure is used to prevent a water hammer and its adverse effects. SOLUTION: A cooling device 7 has such a function, where water W is fed to a cavity block 6 where a laser medium 1 and an exciting lamp 2 are housed for cooling down the laser medium 1 and the exciting lamp 2, where a motor rotational speed control device 20 which regulates the number of revolutions of the electric motor 19 which drives a pump 9 that feeds water W to the cavity block 6.
