PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin having good solubility in a general-purpose solvent in addition to mechanical characteristics, electrical characteristic, transparency and the like which comprises a polyarylate comprising dihydric phenol components containing a specific ratio of 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and dissolves in monochlorobenzene or tetrahydrofuran to give a solution having a concentration of a specific wt.% or higher at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The subject resin for forming a film comprises a polyarylate comprising dihydric phenol components, 60-95 mole % of which is 2,2-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)propane (bisphenol A), and dissolves in monochlorobenzene or tetrahydrofuran to give a solution having a concentration of 10 wt.% or higher at 25 deg.C. As dihydric phenol components other than bisphenol A, are preferable 2,2-bis(3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, so-called bisphenol C, 2,2-bis(3,5- dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, so-called tetramethylbisphenol A, and the like.
