The welding electrode consists of a core wire and an outer coating. The core wire comprises stainless steel containing carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, nickel, nitrogen, unavoidable impurities and remaining iron. The outer coating comprises calcium carbonate, fluorine, silica, alumina, titania, Fe, chromium nitride, Ni, Cr, Mn, sodium and potassium compounds from natural minerals and binding agents. The core wire consists of austenitic stainless steel comprising (in weight percent) carbon (0.001-0.03), silicon (0.01-0.3), manganese (0.5-2.5), chromium (19-21), nickel (9-12), nitrogen (0.01-0.2), unavoidable impurities and remaining iron. The core wire optionally contains cerium (0.1 or less). The outer coating comprises calcium carbonate (6-10), fluorine (2-5), silica (10-30), alumina (4-10), titania (25-35), iron (7-12), chromium nitride (5 or more), nickel (5 or more), chromium (10 or more), manganese (5 or more), sodium and potassium compounds from natural minerals, binding agents and unavoidable impurities.
