PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the clogging of a ceramic filter caused by the deposition of solid impurities, in the ceramic filter having a filter layer consisting of a plurality of layers having different mean pore sizes, by reducing the mean pore sizes of the respective layers from the layer arranged on the most upstream side in the passing direction of a substance to be filtered to the layer on the most downstream side. SOLUTION: In a ceramic filter for mainly filtering a liquid such as water or the like, a filter layer 1 is formed from a plurality of layers 2 (4, 3, 5) different in mean pore size and the mean pore sizes of the layers 2 are set small from the layer 4 arranged on the most upstream side in a passing direction of a substance to be filterd to the layer 5 arranged on the most downstream side. By this constitution, when the substance to be filtered is passed, solid impurities 6 are deposited on the surfaces of the layers 2 in a dispersed state corresponding to the sizes of them not only to make the clogging of the ceramic filter hard to generate but also to perform efficient filtration over a long period of time.
