PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which is capable of decreasing the variations by an operator at the time of hook alignment and lessening the occurrence of a skip stitch, needle breakage and sewing defect. SOLUTION: This sewing machine has a spindle which is freely rotatably supported at a sewing machine frame and rotates cooperatively with a drive motor, a needle bar 6 which allows the attachment and detachment of a needle to and from its bottom end and is vertically moved as the spindle rotates, a loop capturing device fixing shaft which is freely rotatably or oscillatably supported at the sewing machine frame and is connected via a transmission mechanism to the spindle, a loop capturing device 10 which is fixed to the loop capturing device fixing shaft and has a loop capturing part 10a for capturing the needle thread loops formed as the needle bar moves vertically, a loop capturing device position adjusting member 30 which is mountable at the bottom end of the needle bar and a loop capturing device position detecting means 32 which is capable of detecting the contact state between the loop capturing device position adjusting member and the loop capturing part of the loop capturing device.
